Cleaning Your Silhouette® Window Shadings
At Shutter Guy here in Charleston, customers frequently ask us for tips on how to keep their new Silhouette® window shadings looking like new. Luckily, with these beauties, care and maintenance doesn’t have to be a chore. Read on for some great tips and tricks.
Routine Maintenance for Your Silhouette Window Shadings
All Hunter Douglas window treatments are designed for easy care and cleaning. To keep cleaning and care simple for Silhouette, Hunter Douglas treats its fabric with a proprietary process that optimally repels dust, soil, and stains. Now and again, you’ll need to help it along. For everyday cleaning of your Silhouette window shadings, first lightly dust your shades with a feather duster. If you need to get a deeper clean, try gently vacuuming your shades with the brush attachment. Use compressed air or a hair dryer set on cool (not heated!) to blow dust away between the vanes. If you’ve got a small stain, simply moisten a soft cloth with lukewarm water and a gentle detergent if needed. Then blot the fabric at the stain—be sure not to rub, which can cause creases. Be aware that spot-cleaning might cause that area to seem cleaner than the rest of the shade. Also, if your shade gets wrinkled, you can steam the wrinkles out with a handheld travel-size steamer that provides continuous steam.
Professional Cleaners
If your Silhouette treatment isn’t coming clean with the above methods, you might need to contact a professional cleaner for help. Professionals can use ultrasonic cleaning, which is great for areas of heavy soil. The professional will dip your shade into a tank of warm water and mild detergent and then apply sound waves to clean the fabric. Another method might be injection/extraction cleaning system, which is exactly what it sounds like: the professional injects a cleaning solution into the fabric and immediately extracts the dirty solution. If you’re unsure about whether you need professional help, feel free to contact one of our consultants for advice.
