Home Decorating Using the New Color of Marsala

As the leading expert on all things color, Pantone has set the stage for home decorating with its new color of the year: Marsala. Inspired by the wine of the same name, Marsala is a bold reddish-brown that translates well into the home décor arena. Here at The Shutter Guy serving the Charleston area, we can show you a variety of ways to work Marsala into your window coverings and custom fabric design elements.

Color Combinations with Marsala

Depending on how you want to use this new color, the options for other colors in the room are endless. Marsala combines dramatically with neutrals, including warmer taupes and grays. Because of its burnished undertones, Marsala looks great with amber and golden yellows, greens in both turquoise and teal, and blues in the more vibrant range.

Blinds and Shades using Marsala

Window treatments are a great way to incorporate Marsala into any room. Many varieties of blinds and shades come in a version of Marsala. The woven wood shades shown above are a good example.

Custom Drapery, Valances

Marsala is beautiful in pattern or as a solid on custom flowing drapes. Marsala also works well on valances and top treatments, paired with most any blind or shade.

Bedding

Custom bedding is a beautiful way to use Marsala in your bedroom design. Create a custom comforter, or design throw pillows and shams that bring the color in as a bright accent.

Marsala Wallcoverings

Use paint, or choose Marsala-inspired wallpaper, to create an accent wall. Red hues are thought to stimulate the senses and our appetites, so Marsala is a good choice for a dining area or kitchen.
