Privacy Control with Window Treatments

Most everyone has a need for their window treatments to provide with privacy within their home. Here in Charleston, many neighborhoods feature homes that are close together, and these homeowners are often looking for window coverings that serve the primary purpose of providing privacy within the home. Most window coverings provide some privacy, and you have many options as to how you achieve that. At The Shutter Guy, our wide variety of window coverings allow you to protect your privacy and control light while covering your windows in style.

Installation Option: Top-Down-Bottom Up

A really popular window covering installation option is the top-down-bottom-up shade. Especially good for windows that are taller than they are wide, this option allows you to let in light from the top of your window while completely blocking the bottom part of the window. Top-down-bottom-up shades are great for behind bathtubs and in bedrooms. Use this style with most any type of honeycomb shades, roman shades, pleated shades, and woven wood shades.

Window Coverings for Privacy – Shades or Blinds?

Any of our many window blind styles, including wood blinds or faux wood blinds, will give you the ability to tilt the slats so that no one can see in, but you can still let some light into the room. Blinds have slats that can be tilted to varying degrees, and shades are made of solid fabric.

Shades, on the other hand, are either up, down, or somewhere in between if you have the top down/bottom up style. For absolute privacy and and room-darkening, choose blackout shades. Many of our window covering styles are available in blackout fabric. We also offer dual-shade options, where you can put a room-darkening roller shade toward the window and a sheer shade facing the room, each operating separately on the same cassette. With semi-opaque shades like a woven woods, add an optional privacy liner.

Drapery for Added Privacy

Add drapery to existing blinds and shades for more privacy when you need it, or add drapery panels to your window coverings to block light and provide privacy at the sides of your windows. We offer a wide variety of fabrics, patterns and styles to help you create beautiful custom drapery.
