Tilting vs. Lifting: Not All Blinds and Shades Operate the Same

When you think about the ideal way your new window treatments should operate, how do you picture it going? Are you a tilter or a lifter? At Shutter Guy here in the greater Charleston area, our trained consultants can show you options that will match your preferences.

If You Are a Lifter

If you are primarily a “lifter,” you are someone who wants to see through an unobstructed window, so the blind or shade needs to be one that can be easily lifted open, be closed, or be out of the way. Treatments you should consider include Designer Screen Shades, Designer Roller Shades, Pleated Shades, Design Studio Roman Shades, Duette or Applause Honeycomb Shades, Provenance Woven Wood Shades, or Vignette Modern Roman Shades.

If You Are a Tilter

If you are primarily a “tilter,” you are someone who wants to leave your window treatments in place and just rotate them open and closed. Treatments you should consider include Shutters, Wood Blinds, Aluminum Blinds, Vertical Blinds, Luminette Privacy Sheers, Silhouette or Nantucket Window Shadings, or Pirouette Window Shadings.

If You Are a Techie

No matter whether you’re a tilter or a lifter, if you’re a techie, you probably want to combine some technology options with your blinds or shades. Almost any blind can be motorized; the system appropriate for your blind or shade depends primarily on the type of window treatment you purchase. Remember that many motorization options can be hard-wired or battery-operated. Options you might want to consider include:

  • PowerView™ Motorization allows you to move your blinds with your mobile device or tablet – even when you aren’t home!
  • Platinum™ technology – hard-wired with wall switch or remote through any home automation system
  • PowerTilt™ (battery-powered) – tilts slats open or closed
  • Platinum™ App – control your Hunter Douglas window treatments via your Apple or Android device
  • PowerRise® – raise or lower individual or groups of window treatments
  • PowerGlide® (battery-powered) – tilts slats open or closed
